The Vitalacy C. diff Report provides Infection Prevention teams with visibility into hand hygiene activity for rooms identified as being under C. diff precaution.
When a qualifying C. diff test is ordered or a positive result is received through the EMR integration, Vitalacy automatically identifies the applicable monitored room and begins evaluating visits using C. diff-specific hand hygiene requirements.
C. diff Hand Hygiene Requirements
During an active C. diff precaution period:
- Entry: Soap or alcohol-based hand sanitizer may be used to meet the hand hygiene requirement.
- Exit: Soap and water is required for the visit to meet the C. diff compliance requirement.
The report calculates Soap Compliance based on staff visits occurring during the applicable C. diff precaution period.
Understanding the Report
The report provides a summary of each C. diff detection period, including:
- Room – Monitored room associated with the C. diff precaution
- Detection Start / End – When the precaution period began and ended
- Compliant Visits / Total Visits – Visits meeting the C. diff-specific hand hygiene requirements compared with total monitored visits
- Soap Compliance – Percentage of visits meeting the required soap compliance criteria
- Details – Visit-level information, including staff member, entry and exit hand hygiene activity, compliance, and next room visited
An “Ongoing” Detection End indicates that the C. diff precaution remains active.
Detection & Clearance
A C. diff precaution may begin when a qualifying C. diff test is ordered or a positive result is received through the EHR.
The precaution may end following a patient discharge, patient transfer, order cancellation, or corrected negative result.
Compliance is based on the precaution status at the time of the visit. Historical activity remains unchanged if the precaution is later cleared.
Important Notes
- C. diff detection periods are automatically updated based on applicable information received through the EHR integration.
- Vitalacy uses room-level context to associate C. diff events with monitored rooms.
- Patient information is not stored in Vitalacy as part of the C. diff reporting integration.
- Access to the C. diff Report is permission-controlled and intended for authorized users.
